Frequently Asked Questions

What is Flight of the Gibbon?

Flight of the Gibbon is a Zipline experience through the treetops of the exotic Thai rainforest. Your treetop adventure takes you along a combination of Ziplines of various lengths including one of the longest Ziplines in Southeast Asia. You will also cross rope bridges and enjoy the thrill of rappelling (assisted abseil) from the trees. The tour includes an educational walk through the rainforest where you will learn about the animals and plants to be found here. When you book this tour with Flight of the Gibbon the price includes round-trip transfers in our air-conditioned vans, lunch and an extra activity (please check our “what’s included” section further down the page). The tour takes approximately 7 hours from the time we pick you up at your hotel to the time we drop you off.

What are the age, weight, height, fitness and health requirements?

We do not really limit by age here at Flight of the Gibbon. For safety reasons, the only requirements are that participants need to be at least 1 meter (3 feet, 3 inches) tall to fit into the harness properly and cannot be more than 125kg (275Ibs). We regularly have guests as young as 5 years and up to 70 (we once had an 84-year-old guest complete our course).

Fitness?

Regarding fitness, we have some short walks through the rainforest that are approximately ten minutes in duration. If you can walk up two flights of stairs without stopping for a rest, you will be fine.

Can I do the course if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

Flight of the Gibbon strongly advises prospective guests with past or present medical conditions to check with your doctor prior to booking an activity with us. Our staff are not trained medical professionals and cannot assess the implications of Flight of the Gibbon activities on your medical condition.

Can I do the course if I’m pregnant?

Flight of the Gibbon does not allow pregnant woman to take part as the safety harness goes across your stomach and holds the entire weight of your body.

Where can I do the Flight of the Gibbon experience?

How big are the groups? Are there instructors with us on the course?

To keep things more personal and enjoyable each group is limited to a maximum number of nine people. Each group is also accompanied by two fully-trained instructors known as Sky Rangers. They are there to keep you safe and to point out unique and interesting insights about the rainforest during your treetop adventure.

One Sky Ranger will always be on hand to safely clip you onto the Zipline and send you to the next platform. Another Sky Ranger will be there waiting for you at the next platform to help you land safely and to secure you to the next safety cable. You will never need to clip or unclip yourself throughout the whole journey. Our expert Sky Rangers will do this for you and will ensure your safety.

Is Flight of the Gibbon insured?

Yes, our guests can be comfortable that we have insurance for our Zipline courses and also the van transportation to and from the Zipline location.

Can friends and family watch from the Ground?

Unfortunately, Ziplining is not a spectator sport and our Zipline courses are widespread deep in wild Thai rainforests where there is nowhere to watch from the ground. If you do have guests come along who do not wish to Zipline, we charge 800THB for transportation and lunch. Please just let us know in the comments when you book and pay cash for the non-flyers when you arrive. Sorry but we do not offer babysitting services for children.

Do you offer team building, corporate groups, school groups, etc?

Yes, we are a great activity for groups, schools, yearly office parties, team building and more. Please contact our friendly call center for more information.

What should I wear and bring with me?

What to wear?

Please dress comfortably. Sports shoes or other shoes that will not drop off easily are highly recommended. Please do not wear flip flops, excessive or dangling jewelry. You will be in a full body harness suspended high up above the ground, so dress appropriately.

From November to March it is a little cold in Chiang Mai in the mornings (yes, it gets cold in Thailand). Please bring something to keep yourself warm until the day heats up.

From April to October it is the rainy season in Thailand so please bring a raincoat and/or a change of clothes (we sell rainwear on-site at reasonable prices). It doesn’t rain every day during the rainy season, however it’s good to be prepared.

Please bring sunscreen and mosquito repellent if you are sensitive. Generally, there are not many mosquitoes, but it’s good to be prepared.

Hats can be worn to and from the course, however a helmet must be worn by every guest while on the course.

**We have a small shop on-site where you can purchase refreshments, raincoats, ice creams, souvenirs, etc.

What to bring?

Cameras

It’s a good idea to bring a camera to catch the action! Please make sure it fits in your pocket or can be securely attached to your body. In Chiang Mai we also provide a photography service (for a fee) and you can also hire a GoPro HD video camera for 1,500THB for the day which includes USB to take home (not available in Chonburi).

Sky Rangers are not permitted to take photos for you as they are busy concentrating on keeping you and your group safe.

What if I have bags? Do you have lockers or storage?

We have secure storage lockers available, free of charge, which are large enough to fit handbags, small backpacks and valuables.

What if I have bigger bags with me?

You can store your large bags in our office in view of our CCTV cameras. However, Flight of the Gibbon is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.

What if I’m afraid of heights?

Don’t worry, most people are. Our Zipline courses are structured to ease you into the whole experience. And when you see our safety standards, procedures and equipment in action it will help to put you at ease. Even people with a great fear of heights usually feel comfortable to continue soon after starting and we have many guests who have overcome their fear of heights with us.

Will we see gibbons?

Chiang Mai

We have a family of four wild gibbons living in and around our Zipline course in Chiang Mai. Chances are you will hear them and if you are lucky you may see them frolicking in the trees. Gibbons are more active and vocal in the mornings and for the best chance of seeing and hearing them we recommend the early morning booking option at 6.30am.

Chonburi (Bangkok/Pattaya)

Our Chonburi Zipline course is located within Khao Kheow Safari Park and there are gibbons that live there which you will definitely see as part of your Flight of the Gibbon Zipline experience.

** (Side Note) Gibbons are apes not monkeys!

Do you have food options for vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten free?

We do have a limited menu to accommodate the above-mentioned food preferences. Please let us know in the comments when you make your booking so we can accommodate your needs and let you know what is available. You are also welcome to bring your own food if you have a specialized diet.
